Our three-course program teaches you the key traits you need to be an effective lawyer:
- Legal analysis
- Research
- Writing
- Oral Communication
- Professionalism
Through simulated “real life” legal problems, you will learn how to professionally recognize and address legal issues from inception to resolution. You will have opportunities to draft and revise your written work and develop your oral communication skills with extensive feedback from our faculty.
After completing the LSV courses, you can expand your expertise by taking additional skills-focused electives or participating in co-curricular activities like our FIU Law Review and Board of Advocates.
LSV I
In LSV I, you learn to locate, read, understand and apply primary and secondary sources of law. You will prepare two predictive office memoranda that respond to specific legal issues. In addition to this written work, you will practice oral communication skills by reporting research findings and analysis to faculty members acting as supervising attorneys.
LSV II
You will continue to develop your research, analytical and communication skills in LSV II. Your focus will shift from objective communication to persuasive writing and oral advocacy. Specifically, you will prepare appellate briefs and deliver oral arguments to multi-judge appellate panels.
LSV III
The LSV III curriculum builds upon the research, analysis, and communication foundation that you developed in the first two courses. Assignments include cover letters and resumes, contracts, client and attorney correspondence, negotiations, pretrial motions and memoranda.
