Requesting Accommodations
If one or more of your guests requires accessible seating or parking, please visit FIU Commencement’s Special Accommodations page to learn more.
Before Commencement
FIU Commencement’s Grad Checklist tells you all you need to know to prepare for your big day, from registering for the ceremony to buying regalia.
What to Bring
Graduates must bring their cap, gown, and tassel to the ceremony. You may come dressed in your regalia or put on your robe in the Candidates’ Robing Room (OBCC 220). You may want to steam or iron your robe before Commencement, as it may be wrinkled from the packaging.
If you received medals or honor cords at the Pre-Commencement Awards Ceremony, please bring them with you. If you cannot pick up your cords and medals at the awards ceremony, you can pick them up in the Robing Room on Commencement Day.
If you expected to receive a Pro Bono medal or honor cord and did not receive it, please contact Student Services at lawstdsr@fiu.edu.
What Not to Bring
You may only bring items that fit in your pockets under your robe. You cannot leave any items in the Robing Room or carry anything during the ceremony in your hands.
If you have important items—like medicine—that you must carry with you, please contact Student Services at lawstdsr@fiu.edu to inform us of your needs.
Other than cords and medals provided by FIU Law, you may not wear anything on the outside of your robe. You will be asked to remove any unauthorized items.

The Day of the Ceremony
Graduates report to the Candidates’ Robing Room in the Ocean Bank Convocation Center Room 220. Light breakfast items and refreshments will be provided. The Robing Room will be open only to graduates.
All guests must report to the main plaza on the east side of the building. Doors open at 9 a.m. and the ceremony will begin at 10 a.m.
After the Ceremony
Immediately following the Ceremony, all graduates and guests will be escorted out of the Ocean Bank Convocation Center and onto the main plaza.
Post-Ceremony Photography
FIU Law will provide professional photographers to take photos of graduates and guests at the main plaza immediately following the ceremony, if weather permits.
These photographs will be provided online and free of charge to graduates. You will receive an email when these photographs are uploaded and ready to view.
Designate a Meeting Point
After Commencement, there will be thousands of people outside and it will be quite difficult to find your guests. We highly suggest designating a meeting point ahead of time so that you and your guests can find each other.
Diploma Delivery
Graduates participating in the Commencement Ceremony will receive a ceremonial certificate in lieu of an actual diploma.
Approximately one month after Commencement, the Registrar’s Office will mail your diploma to the home address listed on your myFIU account. If you have a financial hold on your account, the Registrar’s Office will release your diploma after you clear the hold.
